FOREWORD

1. This standard is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the

Department of Defense.

2. This standard establishes the requirements for the management of parts, materials,

and processes (PM&P) for use during the development, production, and sustainment of military

systems. These requirements directly apply to the design, manufacture, and support of military

systems. This standard also provides criteria to evaluate the suitability of commercial off-the-

shelf (COTS) items for incorporation into military systems.
