This specification is approved for use by the Marine Corps, Department

of the Navy, and is available for use by

all

Departments and Agencies

of the Department of Defense.

1. SCOPE

1.1 This specification covers the requirements for special purpose

test equipment for testing the peripheral subsystems of the Data

Communications Terminal (DCT) AN/TYC-5A(Vl0 Test equipment covered by

this specification may be commercially available equipment modified to the

extent necessary to meet the requirements specified herein.

2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS

2.1 The following documents of the issue in effect on date of invitation

for bids or request for proposal form

(Copies of specifications, standards, and publications required by

suppliers in connection with specific procurement functions should be

obtained from the procuring activity or as directed by the contracting

officer.

REQUIREMENTS

3.1 First article. The contractor shall furnish five units of each

type of the special purpose test equipment for first article inspection

and approval as specified in MIL-T-28800 and herein.

3.2 Parts, materials and processes. Unless otherwise specified herein,

type

parts, materials and processes specified in MIL-To28800 shall be

used.

the contractor can demonstrate that the use

these parts or

materials will not fulfill the design objectives because

size, weight,

performance, or other reasons, parts or materials shall be used which

most nearly meet or exceed the performance requirements specified herein,

provided the requirement of size, weight, performance, or reliability

will not be impaired as a result

such substitutions. Maximum use

integrated circuits shall be made.

3.3

Design and construction.

All

test equipments described herein

shall comply with the type

II,

class

style

requirements of

MIL-T-

28800

and as modified herein. The requirements contained herein specify

the minimum salient characteristics of the test equipments. Test

equipments which will provide additional characteristics, greater accuracy

or improved performance will be acceptable. The test equipments shall be

of solid-state construction and

the

maximum use of integrated circuits

shall be used.

3.3.1

Controls. A11 controls shall comply with the type

require-

ments

MIL-T-28800 and the requirements specified herein. Nonoperating

controls shall not be externally accessible.

All

operating controls shall

be located on the front panel.

All

potentiometer controls shall have at

least

270 degree rotation range.

3.3.2 Accessibility. Accessibility

components shall be in

accordance with Requirement 36

MIL-STD-454 and

specified herein.

Unless otherwise specified, the

test

equipments shall be constructed

that:

(a)

Subassemblies can be removed without removing any o'ther sub-

assembly, printed circuit card or component.

(b) Chassis components can be removed without removing any other

hardwired component, printed circuit card or subassembly.

(c)

Adjustments can be made without removing any component, printed

circuit card or subassembly.

(d) Subassemblies and printed circuit cards can be removed without

the need to unsolder cables and interconnecting wiring (connections to

all

printed circuit cards and subassemblies shall be through pin and socket

connectors). Printed circuit cards (mother boards) designed primarily to

distribute power and signals to other printed cards (daughter boards)

are

excluded from this requirement.

Calibration. Calibration

time

shall not exceed

inputs and outputs on

ranges and function settings., The calibration interval shall be greater

3.3.4 Enclosures. The latches shall be in accordance with MIL-T-28800

and

specified herein.

Cases

shall be provided with

cam

lock type

latches. The main portion

the latch shall be attached to the

case

cover. The latch shall be protected from damage caused by contact with

other objects. Latches shall not interfere with removal of the cover.

Latches shall be placed to prevent the cover from being fastened in the

wrong position.

3.3.5 Input/Output Peripheral Test Equipment (IOPTE), The IOPTE shall

provide the capability to simulate the input, output, and monitor

channels which

are

normally provided by the Autodin Interface Unit (AIU)

within the DCT.
