RATIONALE

AS6224A for wrap-around insulation repair and protection sleeve, permanent, electric, environment resistant is being

stabilized because the processes/product is considered mature and the committee does not anticipate future technical

changes. Stabilization does not imply the process or product is unacceptable for applications for which it is designed. Any

technical changes noted by a supplier or user which results in a product or requirement change will be addressed by a new

revision. No qualified source is currently available and usage is estimated to be low.

STABILIZED NOTICE

This document has been declared “STABILIZED” by SAE AE-8C2 Terminating Devices and Tooling Committee and will no

longer be subjected to periodic reviews for currency. Users are responsible for verifying references and continued suitability

of technical requirements. Newer technology may exist.

1. SCOPE

The AS6224 specification covers environment resistant, permanent insulation repair sleeves for repairing different types of

insulation damages of wire or cable jackets in installed applications. The repair sleeve is intended to repair damaged

primary wire or cable jacket covers where the shielding and wire conductors are not damaged.

1.1 Type I

Contains an insulation sleeve (outer sleeve) and a piece of adhesive (inner sleeve) that are manufactured in discrete

lengths designed to clip over the damaged area and heated to recover and seal.

1.2 Type II

Contains an insulation sleeve (outer sleeve) and adhesive (inner sleeve) that are laminated together and designed to wrap

around the damaged area and heated to recover and seal.
