FOREWORD
1. This handbook is approved for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of
Defense (DoD). The purpose of this handbook is to promote the timely development,
production, modification, fielding, and sustainment of affordable and capable DoD systems
by addressing manufacturing risks and issues throughout the program acquisition cycle. It is
based upon practices developed by multiple, joint government/industry teams and the
SAE G-23 Manufacturing Management Committee, which developed and published
SAE AS6500, “Manufacturing Management Program.”
2. This handbook provides detailed guidance to DoD personnel for the application of SAE
AS6500, Manufacturing Management Program, as well as guidance on implementing it in
DoD contracts.
3. Comments, suggestions, or questions regarding this document should be addressed to
