1 Scope

This specification defines the minimum mandatory requirements for Remote Terminal

Units (RTUs) for oil & gas and utility applications.

1.1 This specification and explicitly referenced Saudi Aramco specification applies

to all RTU equipment, RTU cabinet, accessories, power distribution, process

instruments power supplies and associated software required to remotely control

and monitor a process area.

1.2 This specification excludes non-integrated network switches and radio modems

that are covered by other existing specification documents.

1.3 Where a project Functional Specification Document (FSD) calls for an

integrated SCADA and RTU system, this specification shall apply to the RTU

portion of the system. As defined in SAES-Z-004.

1.4 Application functional requirements, such as well testing, flow calculations,

shall be stated in the individual project FSD or related documents while this

specification will serve as the minimum mandatory requirement for the RTU.

1.5 The RTU Specific Requirement Sheet (Attachment 1) lists only items that are

optional. It is not intended to list design parameters. The parameters have to be

supplied by the design office or the proponent.

2 Conflicts and Deviations

Any conflicts between this document and other applicable Mandatory Saudi Aramco

Engineering Requirements (MSAERs) shall be addressed to the EK&RD Coordinator.

Any deviation from the requirements herein shall follow internal company procedure

SAEP-302.
