Prep a ra tion of Test So lu tion

Place 1 g test portion on 9 cm fil ter and wash with small por tions

H2O un til fil trate mea sures ca 250 mL. Add H2O in fine stream

directed around en tire pe riph ery of fil ter pa per in cir cu lar path,

en sur ing that H2O and sol ids are thor oughly mixed with each

ad di tion. Let each por tion pass through fil ter be fore add ing more and

use suc tion if wash ing would not oth er wise be com plete within 1 h. If

fil trate is tur bid, add 1–2 mL HNO3, di lute to 250 mL, and mix.
