Revision History

28 May 2013 New Saudi Aramco Materials System Specification.

7 September 2016 Major revision. Update MPFM technical requirements. As stated the 34-SAMSS-001 has

been developed to address a gap where neither international nor a Saudi Aramco general

specification for multi-phase flow metering solution were present, implementing and

developing this standard has shown to enhance safety, quality and reliability. It has also

facilitated the commoditization of a previously customized processes (project specific). It has

streamlined all the processes related and around MPFM. This revision is a result of all

lessons learned and best practices using the SAMSS for three years in all MPFM related

activities.

30 May 2019 Editorial revision to:

- Revised “Conflicts and Deviations” to be in line with the Technical Deviation Approvals of

SAEP-302.

- Replace cancelled SAEP-103 with SAEP-301 and cancelled SAEP-3102 with SAEP-31.

- Correct title of SAEP-302 and SAEP-1151.

- Removed brand name “Microstation” in paragraph 10.12.

20 November 2019 Editorial revision to extend Next Revision date.

Saudi Aramco: Company General Use

1 Scope

1.1 This Saudi Aramco Materials System Specification (SAMSS) defines the

minimum mandatory requirements for engineering, design, fabrication, and

testing of multi-phase flow meters (MPFM) with its associated components for

all Saudi Aramco fields and facilities.

1.2 This entire standard may be attached to and made a part of purchase orders.

2 Conflicts and Deviations

Any conflicts between this document and other applicable Mandatory Saudi Aramco

Engineering Requirements (MSAERs) shall be addressed in writing to the EK&RD

Coordinator.

Any deviation from the requirements herein shall follow internal company procedure

SAEP-302, Waiver of a Mandatory Saudi Aramco Engineering Requirement.

3 References

3.1 All MPFM equipment shall meet the requirements of this Saudi Aramco

Materials System Specification and other applicable SAMSSs, project

specifications, project drawings, ISS Data Sheet, referenced codes and

standards, Inspection and Testing Requirements (Form A-175), and

Non-material Requirement Forms (NMRs).

3.2 The selection of material and equipment and the design, construction,

maintenance, and repair of equipment and facilities covered by this SAMSS

shall comply with the latest edition of the references listed below, unless

otherwise noted.

3.3 Other than the requirements of this SAMSS and the referenced mandatory Saudi

Aramco standards, the vendor can use their own standard design, equipment,

and materials based on international standards and industry codes.
